Pike and zander fish-in

Just picked this back up again as my PC has been in the menders for some serious repairs, sees Okish now but not overly confident in it now

Anyway back on topic

It's looking like the back end of the season then, its going to work out a bit much for a weekend for our travelling company as I was thinking of bringing my lad as well, so the ticket prices and fuel for travelling ( think Midlesbrough and 15 miles) and the return would make it a bit pricey

If it can be done for later in the year when the tickets are at a better price then I'm in and so are my mates , shame it does'nt seem to be working out for this month as I really fancied it having never caught a zander before, they just don't exist this far North, and they still remain on my "must catch" list

Don't give up on the idea Andrew as I'm sure it will come off and when it does I will be there

Thanks for that Brian, and apologies again for the mix-up. I certainly haven't given up, and I'm as disappointed as you that it's not this coming weekend. There will definitely be a Zander fish-in before the end of the season!

There is some confusion here. I am a member of KLAA and I always believed that night fishing was for members only, but I have heard day ticket anglers talking about fishing at night. Also there is a dusk till dawn day ticket available (10 pounds only from a bailiff) so I think the rules have changed. We have good website. Check out www.klaa.co.uk.

I tried to post this earlier, but it has not appeared, so I will try again. As a KLAA member, I always thought night fishing was for members only, but the club now sells a Dusk till Dawn day ticket (10 pounds from a bailiff) so maybe the rules have changed. The weekly ticket is 15 pounds, by the way. Check out the website www.klaa.co.uk and contact the secretary for the final decision.

Thanks Fenman. Yes, there is a £10 dusk til dawn ticket, but for 2 nights that means buying two night tickets and 3 day tickets (lots of money!). The weekly ticket is definitely days only.

A cut-price season ticket at the back end of the season is still the best option here.

Just think

If things had worked out we'd have been bivvied out now for two or three days by now, I think there must be a God somewhere looking out for us and making sure we get better fishing weather later in the year

Lets just hope that the Zander feel the same way

I had an early morning session on the Middle Level on the Friday. My intention was to walk a good few miles away from where I'd parked the car, then wobble a deadbait back for Pike or demented Zander. But having forgotten to buy deadbaits at Specialist Angling when I’d shopped there on the Saturday, I first had to catch some bait. After three biteless hours, and with my left ear aching and ready to drop off from the relentless icy wind and driving light rain I gave up! Note to self: Remember to buy all baits needed/bring shelter for fishing open areas of the Fens.

I’d previously fished both the Little Ouse and Wissey on the Wednesday, and although weather conditions were just as poor (sudden cold snap with freezing temps overnight, bright sunny days, and slow paced clear waters), I did manage an enjoyable (often ‘fish-a-chuck’) trotting session on the Wissey in Hilgay for some tiny Perch (to maggot), Roach (to maggot, bread flake, or elderberry), and eventually Dace (to maggot). I’d tried the whole KLAA fishable section of the Little Ouse with no luck, but that could just as easily be due to my complete lack of skill as the adverse weather conditions.

Bravo to KLAA’s bailiffs. If you only ever see one other angler on the bank there, chances are he’s a bailiff! Very helpful chaps too, a mine of useful information.
