AN Fish- in River Test

Yes - as I recall I switched to the carrier mid-afternoon as no one else was fishing it - caught all the fish about 2/3rds of the way down....

I suspected as much! It must have been agonising watching the bigger ones ignoring your bait...

Thanks for the directions guys. Your thread also starts to build the anticipation, do I trot, fluff chuck or hide under a brolly.

I've a new pin to try out so I think it'll be the trot.

There's so much variety there, Rog, it's a really special place. The slow carrier is an enchanting piece of water, crystal clear water over a silty, muddy bottom, very shallow and narrow. You can stand there thinking, how can there be any decent fish here - and out of nowhere three carp waddle past  I haven't been lucky enough to spot the famous roach yet...

The fast carrier is beautiful, clear and shallow over gravel and vivid green weedbeds, nice and fast and tumbling.

The main river is gorgeous, you can see the trout and grayling holding station in the clear water. Where the river runs shallow you often can't see any fish, but if you trot some maggots down you'll magically catch them... a friend of mine caught the most beautiful chub I've ever seen last year in horrendous conditions, it was absolutely mint.

The trotting is great fun, this will be the first time I'll have tried with the fly. Should be interesting!

I'm getting a bit excited too now :D

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Hi Anderoo

Intigued by your mention of the Chub, are there a decent head of them in the river? As in all my previous visits to Timsbury(admittedly this was several years ago) i have never come across them.

I've only been there twice before so I don't know it that well, but I don't think there are many chub. The one I saw last year (caught by Goosequill) was from a little slack behind an overhanging bush on the near bank, on a big lump of flake. It was spectacularly beautiful.

Anderoo

Has there been any news of Goosequill? I am beginning to think he is a figment of my imagination.

No, I texted him but haven't heard anything. I'm certain he's still coming though, he's probably just away from a PC at the moment...

Rumours of my demise in amongst a big bin on breadmash are ill-founded.

Been very busy! Looking forward to actually doing some fishing soon.....

Tony - will put cheque in post to you tomorrow morning.

  • 2 weeks later...

This has come round quickly - only a week and a half away, and the annual Metcheck watch has begun B) After last year I'm not going to jinx it, so at this stage I'm saying nothing...

Re-reading this I notice that Mr Plumb will be there tomorrow, so good luck and let us know how it goes!

Apparently, the river has dried up, a coachload of Eastern europeans have been down with barbies, the car park is full of chrome pannelled caravans, PETA have taken over the lease, Tescos have run out of bacon, and worst of all, I CAN'T GO!!

Been checking met check then have you Dunk ?
