AN Fish- in River Test

Small non-descript nymphs like pheasant tails and GRHEs?

I bought a card of flies claiming to be good for grayling, and that's exactly what was on it; various Hare's Ear, pheasant tails, czech nymphs. Didn't actually buy them for grayling, mind, nor have I used them for that. Mostly, I've used them to decorate bits of Thames riverbed.

Cheers Steve. Are you bringing a fly rod too?

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Has to be worth a dabble, doesn't it? My fly gear is a little on the heavy side, at 6/7wt, but should be OK. I was just looking at this stuff on czech nymphing technique, and I think it could work really well on the fast carrier. I've never had much luck with wet flies, I think I lack faith in the bite indication, but this might be the thing to up my confidence.

Good man!!

I think I'll bring an 8ft #4 outfit - I can't cast it very far, but I expect that'll be OK. I was thinking of having a weighted nymph on the point and (assuming droppers are allowed?) a little unweighted nymph on a dropper.

I had my first few fish on the upstream nymph in the spring, but Czech style would be a lot easier...!

PS have a look at this Matt Hayes vid I just found: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-sx7Ow7HCQ&...feature=related

He's just fishing down and across, wet fly style.

I watched that episode on TV!

Now, with all the loose feed going in, would it be terribly unsporting to choose a nymph that looks rather like a maggot...

:D I thought that too, a fake maggot on a size 14 hook, loosefeeding maggots - the gentleman's art!

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.
