strange carp baits

hi all

 

i was watching carp crew the other night and they were using baits from supermarkets one was useing different meat the other was using peanuts and the peanuts were most sucsessfull

i was supprised as peaple use lunchen meat to catch carp

so does that mean that you are going to try peanuts next time you go fishing or stick with the meat?

If you gonna use peanuts make sure that you prepare them well. Or your kill the carp.

Assuming that you use food grade peanuts (the only sort sold in the UK as I understand it) to avoid any chance of aflatoxin contamination (a toxin produced by a fungus that grows on improperly stored nuts), how would a peanut bait harm a carp?

 

The old wives tale about them swelling in the gut and exploding the fish has been discussed on here many times and it simply isn't true (or even possible).

 

Boiling them a bit to soften them and make rigging easier makes sense but it really isn't a safety issue.

Angling Times have a feature on supermarket baits:

 

Baked Beans + salt

Cat food

Tuna in oil

Popcorn

Salted peanuts

Oyster sauce

Pepperami extra hot

 

It seems Carp will eat anything particularly if its sweet, spicy or salty.
