Drop shot braid

What strength braid is best suited to dropshot fishing?

I have a setup with an unknown strength in brown but i struggle to see this against the water so was also looking to change the colour.

Can I have your bank account number and sort code please?

It's a good idea to change any line of unknown origin so you're right to do that. I use 5kg (0.1mm dia) yellow Power Pro braid for jigging and would use the same for drop shotting. For both setups I join a fluoro leader of 6-8lbs bs to the braid using an albright special knot. For drop shotting the length of the leader will depend on the depth of water you're fishing and where you want to present the lure.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

I reckon 10lb is about right. Thin enough for good presentation but not too thin that it tangles all the time. I like bright yellow, which is a decent all-round colour for good visibility.

Here's a fox rage video showing how to setup your tackle for drop shotting on a canal.

Can't go wrong with bog standard PP for general drop-shotting/shallow water jigging in my opinion.

Really thin braids come into their own when vertical fishing in very deep water, but when casting from the bank they can cause you to tear your hair out!

I am using Rockfish Ultrabraid - Yellow - 8Lb from Tronix, though this is for LRFing in the sea, but essentially similar to dropshotting. I also use 4lb Fluorocarbon straight through. With this I have landed Wrasse to 2lb and Pollack to 3lb as well as the usual array of mini species.

This article is worth a read: http://www.veals.co.uk/blog/2013/11/lrf-not-just-for-saltwater/
