Good Evening all, hope you enjoyed the festive season, just a shame its all over again.I hate going back to work when there`s fishin to be done.

Anyway onto my question.Would anyone know where I can get hold of an Ian Heaps loaded slider?

I guess these will be the best as he was the best!

Unless of course you know better(about the floats).I love to be proved wrong on here as I normally end up buying some pretty good gear.(Stotz being a recent example and highly recommended)

I`m going to be fishing a old brick pit which has one bank drop off to 15` at a rod length out.Holds good Tench especially(for later in the year)but also Perch,Bream and more.

Cheers guy`s n gal`s

Use the Polaris float. Simply thread the line through the mechanism, attach lead or swimfeeder along with your hook length. Cast out, locks automatically when you tighten up. Dead easy.

I agree with Seph, hadn't used a sliding float in many years since fishing on the broads with my Grandad.

I bought one of the Polaris range last year, it's an absolute doddle to use.

Bottom ring of float, small (tiny) bead, stop knot on line. Overcast a litle way, wait for float to dissapear and draw back to botom of slope.

The Ian Heaps sliders are different to the Polaris ones and allow you to also fish off the bottom. You used to be able to order them direct from Ian Heaps. I almost did myself, but you have to send Ian a tube about 14 inches long and I never got round to it. Ian's website address is http://www.ianheaps.co.uk/ There's no mention of the floats but it does give a contact phone number and an e-mail address.

If you cant find anything claiming to be a slider take a look at floats sold for long range carp fishing (match style that is). I use some Italian floats sold for this purpose for my slider fishing. They are essentialy bodied waglers that have adjustable weights in the base so you can get the balance just right. The bottom eye is larger than the traditional slider so they are used with a micro bead which in my experience works better than the tiny eyes on Traditional sliders. Another advantage of these floats is that some have interchangeable tips so that you can vary the colour, thickness and in some cases boyancy of the tips. very usefull when fishing at range.

As for Polaris, they obviously have a use for some but they dont represent an alternative to the slider , if anything they are an alternative to traditional forms of ledgering. Using a slider allows you to search the water from the bottom up. One of my most pleasurable match wins came from fishing a slider at between 15 and 20 feet deep in 30 feet of water. I think that many people go wrong in deep water because they only fish the bottom. In my experience the deeper the water the more chance of the fish being off the bottom.

I agree with Seph, .

Yep, but there is one disadvantage - hook a decent fish, and the tension on the line will cause it to cut a groove into the plastic of the tube.

Two or three good fish will render the float unusable. In fact if the float gets caught in weed, so that the line slides through the float under tension - either as the fish takes line, or you have to haul it through the weed. one good fish will do it.
