you would have to see it to belive it, they got a long tank imbeded into the wall......of their bath room, so they can shower and watch the fish move around.

i suggested it might not be a good place for it due to heat from the bath, shower and condinsation, they even got a freakin waterproof tv sealed into the wall anyway im trying to get them as much info as i can

tank dimensions: 2m in length - 60cm wide - 67cm high

i dont know the tank they have but they did spend alot of money on it, all with the needed accessories pump and all with bio filter

need to know, how long should tank be left without fish in it for it to settle, how do they deal with ph levels and all other stuff like chemicals. how would they introduce the first fish into the tank then later more fish

will be all tropical fish, and can anyone suggest good hardy tropical fish that can stand a good bit of stress. im trying my best to school them that they aint just ornaments but will die if not done right.

In theory this sounds like a good idea. But in practice I would have thought it will turn into a bit of a nightmare.

First off how much time are they going to be actually looking at the fish? Unless they spend one hell of a lot of time in the bathroom I would have thought very little even if the condensation on the glass is not taken into account. So interest in them will be minimal. Which generally means that they will be neglected.

Access to the tank for feeding, cleaning and general maintenance must be difficult in that situation. So once again neglect will set in.

The temperature in the bathroom will fluctuate a lot so keeping the tank temperature stable I would have thought would be nigh on impossible which will stress the fish and lead to disease no matter what he puts in there.

The trouble is that unlike a television fish are living creatures and cannot be switched on and off as suits their owner. Personally the more I think of it the more I am persuaded that it is a very bad idea and that in a relatively short time he will end up with a tank full of smelly water and dead fish just through neglect alone.

Tell him to take the tank out and put it in his living room where he will at least be able to see the fish and enjoy them.

One final question. How come the person who sold them what sounds to me like well over a thousand quids worth or more of aquarium and gear did not or will not advise them on how to look after it? Or for that matter advise them on fish and test their water for them?

im 99% sure that bathrooms are made to hold the bath with steel beams running under the area where the bath is to be.

you could get a structural engineer to put some beams under the floor where you want the tank :D

I've been in the building game for over 25 years...............steel beams??????????

Gotta be a Scot thing. :)

A four foot tank full of water ain't as heavy as it sounds.

Think of a twenty stone bloke, wouldn't you let him in your house in case he falls through the floor????????

:)
