Cheap braid question

Anderoo, I've been using the Chinese stuff for several years now..Agepoch Spectra. Got it in several BS from 10lb upwards to 90lb.All has been exactly as stated on the label for diameter.

Just a word though, I did a lot of testing a few years back and found that passing the line thro twice (swivels etc) or the No Knot knot gave 100% BS on all the braids up to 30lbs. Not tested any above this though.

Having used PP for a few years I an convinced that the Agepoch Spectra is the same line.

Low diameter is a big advantage when fishing at distance or in very deep water.

Being able to bend the hooks out of snags is an advantage when pike fishing at close range.

The deep water advantage was like a light being switched on for sea anglers. The advantage of using half the amount of lead was and still is amazing. Most of us salties use kamasan type hooks that are very strong and don't bend much. However, as Nick say's 30lb braid is the norm and you can certainly pull the hook out of wreck metal at great depth. Then as the hook is so strong, bend it back to shape and continue to use it. What I find is if you use lighter braid on the charter boats, any tangles and it can be a bugg@r to sort out, so again 30lb is about right. I have what I class as very powerful 80lb braid that I use if I'm going for rather large conger, but that ain't all that often 50lb is used for normal big sea stuff and fishing in depth down to 3 hundred foot. I'm also surprised at the high braid class, used for freshwater fishing, is it because of the diameter? Off Portland, dorset is the deep hole and in tide we can use 3-4 lb of lead. I have seen guys using mono who can't hold bottom even with that weight, using braid you can and that is what makes it all worth while.

ohh forgot, at distance, it's fun during the winter, off the coast, when the tide is rushing through, again some just can't hold bottom, or don't know if they are on the bottom or not, so I use a balloon to let the gear go down tide as much as I want, 200' plus, no problem. Give the gear a tug, balloon comes off and the end tackle and bait drop straight down and hugs the sea bed no problem.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Cheers Den. The braid itself looks and feels just like pp, but it's definitely not the right bs. Next to my 10lb pp, they look identical.

Same thing for deep water vertical jigging at the midland reservoirs. When I went from 10lb pp to 8.5lb fox jigging braid it meant I could use 10g less weight. It doesn't sound a lot, but that makes a huge difference!

Last time I fished off the beach, I used braid for the first time. I was using light gear and rolling a lead around in (vain) hope of bass, and the improvement in feel was amazing compared to mono. I could feel the rocks, the seaweed, that I wasn't getting any bites...

Steve

I bet you were using a fixed spool

braid is a pig to use with shorecasting multipliers as it beds in when power casting causing mahoosive birds nests and break offs.

Yep, fixed spool, I don't own any multipliers!

Mitchel Aerospod fixed spool reel on a spod rod, as it happens.

Turns out they aren't very saltwater resistant, even when promptly and properly rinsed :(
