human rights wouldnt allow them to do that. the EU would have great fun.

I think everyone here is missing the point, it all comes down to choice.

Your choice to live in the country

Your choice to drive a car

Your choice to have a job where you have to travel

Your choice to use public transport

mr suit who travels 200 miles a week will pay more than mrs oap who drives to town once a week.

The point is to tax Mrs OAP off the roads at peak times, thus leaving them free for Mr Suit (who isn't paying) to do his business travel. Don't mistake this for some kind of Robin Hood rob-the-rich operation, it's more a matter of pricing the poor out of the way of the better off and the company car.

This will be an additional charge. Fuel tax will not be reduced. It's possible that road tax will be reduced, though unlikely. In any case, the cost of road charging will, for most people, be a lot more than road tax. The objective is to price commuting by car out of the reach of a significant number of people. It's intended to hurt.

Without wishing to be rude I think your missing the point, some people have to live in the country, they put the bacon, eggs and milk on your table in the morning, for the vegies they grow your carrots and spuds, 90% of water supplies are very remote, some people think life revolves around city slickers, but if the others laid down tools you would also be up to your neck in sh*t.

So life ain't quite as simple as that :D

You think the EU would would protect you from big brother when it's the biggest big brother of all :lol:

Any way I don't know what all the fuss is about, in ten years time oil will be on the decline and fuel prices will go through the ceiling hitting not only cars and lorries but trains, bus, planes and any thing else which depends on it.

Guess it will be down to those two things we put our socks on or a donkey cart :D:D At least those in the country will have some grass to fuel the donkey with.

so many issues. The main reason the government are laying this down is to "reduce climate changes" well if it prices people of the roads who cares. I for one would like to be able to breath in 20 years time and i would like my kids to know that people made sacrifices so they could lead a decent life.

Not all the time do the government have a alterior motive for things, but surley if they bring something in that prices 10,000 cars of the road its got to be a good thing for all the people

unfortunately the gov always have an alterior motive ,do you think they care about the planet if so why is blair and his cronies injecting CO2 directly into the atmosphere via their endless foreign "fact finding" trips ,why do they have big gas guzzling cars and not smart cars ,why are all the lights on on public buildings and even large spotlights outside .

people dont have a choice where to work thats long gone ,if you want to work you go to it! it wont come to you.

as for the eu its those buggers that make half the rules (and the government install the rest pretending its a euro rule)

they transfer the whole kit and kaboodle of the euro parliament hundreds of miles each month what do they care about emissions either

just what 10,000 people would you prefer off the road ,old people ? ,blacks? ,moslems or just poor people which it undouptably will be

Perhaps you're young, or perhaps you've been lucky, but life tends to throw people's plans to live near to where they work into disarray. Jobs aren't for life, often both partners need to work, and uprooting children from a good school is not often in their best interests. If one partner loses his job and can't get another locally, one of them will need to travel. The "choice" argument always looks somewhere between naive and smug to me. I'm not having a go, but you need to appreciate that people's circumstances differ.

The big issue around "choice" that you have to consider is that nobody "chooses" to sit in a traffic jam. It's the least worst of the options they have, and they aren't doing it for fun or out of spite. They're just ordinary taxpaying people trying to get to work to earn a crust.

As far as reducing congestion and CO2 emissions goes, personally, I think a significant chunk of workers could do their jobs perfectly well from home. We need a change in management culture in Britain which would allow more people to do so. Significant tax breaks for homeworkers and their employers would be a good start.

why less emissions, trains and busses dont use solar energy.

emissions from humans are tiny compared to just 1 volcano ,perhaps those 10,000 cars should be used to plug one.

the "global warming" crap is an excuse to get more tax not a reason for it ,the temp was 2-3 degrees higher when our cavemen ancestors walked the earth ,were cars to blame

carefull from working from home the council will charge business rates for you property

perhaps he lives in a town where everything is waking distance away ,they should pay far more tax because its a conveniance!!

a bus will carry more people per kg of CO2, a train on the other hand, Eurostar recently commissoned a scientfic investigation into the co2 emission it churns out on a london to paris route, and the outcome was even with all the electric that needs to be generated for it to run, it is about the same as a mini, a mini carrirs 5 people at a push, a eurostar 766, no comparison really.

the emissions from a volcano are beyond our control so throw what you want in there.

i just think that its time people was responsible for the future of our kids, grand kids and all the rest and anything that might take some pollutants out of the air has got to be a good thing, as a race we all have been burying our heads in the sand for far to long

No i dont live in a major town, i live in capel. chesters knows it only to well.

but what about diesel particles ,not just CO2 but pure carbon ,and what bus waits for you to leave from the bottom of your garden and drops you off at the front of your job .

no busses here ,a 3 mile walk uphill to the nearest station cant really see my mrs walking that .

plant more trees and stop importing foreign food ,you do eat only food grown locally dont you ,you are using a PC only made from materials found locally ,made into metal and plastic locally, built and carried to your house by the manufacturer purely by human power arn't you.

if you want to stop emissions live in a wood and eat leaves

compared to here capel (le ferne?)is a town and is definately within walking distance of one having done it both drunk and sober .

and i expect theres a great bus service to it too and fishing just down that big step
