One for Chesters!

Its an intrepid standard ,very common with the nylon gears uncommon with the frail alloy ones ,nylon then was the wonder material "self oiling" generally meant it dried and cracked in harsh conditions ,several slight variations to the stem and a couple inside.

There was a cheaper version without the anti reverse called the junior its more collectable than its brother

As theres so many about its value is in pence rather than pounds the box is worth more in good nick ,infact at the time when it was first sold the box was outsourced and DID cost more than the reel ,morritt then made those as well as all the reels ,he was a canny man

Made from 56 to 62 but dropped in cost when better reels came into production

Cant remember what the paint was called but it was put straight onto the alloy without primer so most are like that ones where the paint chips off ,they were sprayed 3 at a time on clockwork gramophone turntables as morritt had moved into an old gramophone manufacturers by this time so had lots hanging about

Thanks Chesters, I told the guy asking me that I knew a man who would know all about it! Will pass this on to him. The book any closer?

No and probably never now

To many collectors with deeper pockets than i unfortunately ,it all hangs on the pictures i cant use pictures i dont have so to get them i have to find the reel and its box ,3/4`s of the way there but the last part may take longer than i live

As Budgie said, a shame.

Dunno about the rest of you, but I donated Intrepid reels I had acquired to Chesters a long time ago.

Search your attics, and report on what you have - and even if you don't want to part with your reel, at least put some pictures up with permission for Chesters to use them if he wants to.

To me, angling history is important - a great shame if any of it is lost through something AN members failed to do.

I have all the reels up to about 1980 its the boxes that are hard to find and they weren't shown on the litrature of the time so you dont know what to look for ,most mid to late reels had at least 4 versions of boxes as the british disease was still about and instead of making something new all that happened was old was repackaged to look as it was new!

Some of the latest ones are the hardest to find especially the LEEDA ones ,i decided to collect a brand had i stuck just to those made by morritt i would be missing just a couple

A chap visited me also thinking of doing a book but i think decided to keep it down to morritt reels and told me look out for it in three months ,i think hes hit the wall i have ,do you decide to finish at some point knowing its not complete (i know 3 morritt reels i know he doesnt know exist) or be like me and want the whole story and perhaps never finish waiting for the missing bits because when you have all the common bits the rarer the chance of getting the rarer ones and as their rare the price rockets beyond my pocket so i have to bide my time and hope once the deep pocket collectors get theirs the price drops but theres the new collector coming along with fat walletts champing at the bit to start (or finish ) their new collection when i started 16 years ago intrepid collectors were almost unheard of so the prices were cheap then ebayers started getting interested in the things and things got hard

If anyone wants to take over i will sell my collection hoping it will get finished but it wont come cheap ,i have a great deal of unique archive stuff and a few prototypes and then theres 16 years of hassle and disapointment to cost and ofcourse the information not available to anyone else as half my contacts died in that period who ofcourse were the real archives of knowledge

I'm 62 fat and a heart attack waiting to happen with a prostrate the size of a coconut ,i have been fearing death since i was 42 so to know its all not going in the skip or split back up would great and we could buy more pies and sweets to wave it goodbye

Pointless ebaying it because of the time wasters and tire kickers and the hassle of hundreds of photos and explaining i cant tell you what reel came after reel x etc etc

Unfortunately information is power and if i keep on going then not wishing to get pipped at the post (and all the expense wasted) its difficult to ask for pictures of a reel others may not know exist giving them an advantage i took years to find out myself.

Sounds mean i know but unfortunately something i have had to do ,got no problem as above repeating common knowledge (well perhaps not the wind up gramaphone bit ) but telling someone something not in common knowledge only disadvantages me.

Got no problem people offering me pictures of their intrepids but a fair few could get upset me not needing their kindness as i already have the full set (as far as i know)
