Where are Outlook Emails saved

Recommended Posts

I had to re-install Office XP the other day and have subsequently lost my emails from the current inbox. I have found the stored offline file but cannot seem to open it; if I associate it with outlook it just opens a new email with the 50 Mbit file as an attachment. Does anyone know how I would go about exporting the old mails into my new inbox so that I can view them again? Cheers.

lots of sites with info on importing message files into outlook & outlook express, only prob good old Microsoft have about 5 differrnt versions of there own files,

most are .pst files but do a search on ms with your outlook version and follow the descructions,

nb you will need to place the .pst file (a copy of it) in the correct folder of the new outlook install or it wont be seen by the import filter, it is also rather easy to end up with double entrys.

is but one of many.......

another, but you will need to make sure which outlook you have.......

Not quite sure about the problem but try using the file/import function then point it at the pst file, worked for me a while ago on OE. Going to upgrade to office 2003 from 97 shortly so keep us posted I might need the same help!

Thanks for the replies fellas  and sorry for not acknowledging them sooner. I haven't checked this forum after the first few days post posting.

I did manage to locate the .pst files and import them but the only thing I haven't sussed yet is that I cannot create a new default contact list. I have to select my old contacts/groups from what Outlook now thinks is an additional list..... :headhurt:
