Advice on reel and line for a 2-weight rod

Anderoo

Recommended Posts

Well, I've got the rod and now need a small, light reel and DT2F line. Does anyone have any suggestions? Finding a 2-weight line is proving tricky (I don't want to spend any more than £20 really), and I'm not sure where to start with reels (again, I don't want to spend that much if I can help it).

Any suggestions gratefully received :)

You'll probably have to cut and paste it into your browser to get the link to work.

There are also some more suitable lines in the same section:

Sporting Goods > Fishing > Fly Fishing > Lines, Leaders, Tippets.

USPS airmail to the UK should only be about a fiver............

Good Luck

Hi

In a light set up the line is critical.

This may be a little more than you want to spend but trust me, worth every penny. Fantastic line for the sort of fishing you are likely to do with a 2wt. I use it all the time. Its the SA Mastery XPS

The line is much more important than the reel. With a 2wt you don't want or need a large arbour or advanced disc drag, so the money you save on the reel you can spend on the line.

I would look for a decent secondhand Leeda LC 60 or 80,

you might get lucky on Ebay, lovely basic lightweight reel, I wish they still made them. Failing that a cheap plastic Shakespeare or similar would do fine, it's only somewhere to store the line.

I got lucky and got one of these

Fantastic, but may be out of your projected price range.

Either way, you will love it

Thanks a lot guys, some very useful info there. I certainly don't need an expensive reel but I do want it to look nice against the rod (it's the most expensive rod I've ever bought, so I'm feeling tarty!). I agree about the line though - it looks as though I may have to spend more than I really want to. Always the way, eh!

I'll let you know how I get on...

EDIT: sorry, just looked at the Tacklebargains page properly and saw the sale prices - yay! Nice one Sportsman, I'll get an order in now.

Just the reel now then...!

The LC 60 was for a 4wt. Although it is larger, it is lightweight.

I have a Dragonfly and is is no lightweight, you don't really need the disc drag.

There will be some very good Vosseler reels on ebay starting tomorrow, the smallest one of those would be good value but again, more than you want to spend.

Keep a look out on Ebay for a ryobi Mg 255 Super lightweight and may just fall into you price range. A bit scarce though. made of magnesium and a bit fragile.

If you really want to look tarty try one of these

What about the Greys G1? I know its rated 3-4# but it's small, light and within Anderoo's price range £24.99 on Harris Angling.

If you are quick you can get a Greys G1 from Hooked On Scotand, a shop in Stirling that is closing dowm

Current price is 18 quid but you do have to be quick. Once they are gone, they are gone.

A BFR rimfly 55 at 14 quid is a good result as well.

telephone them on 01786 446564

now

They might do you a deal on a line
