That survey was instigated by the commercials. Silence from Glenn ;):D

Correct me if I am wrong, but don’t they say that silence is the virtue of fools? But then again silence is one of the hardest arguments to refute.

I believe in glenk, s case his silence is one of his better contributions to conversation on this forum when it comes to understanding any meaningful realism of commercial activities.

Please don’t take it personal glenk; I couldn’t take another 4 day resignation speech from you.

Regards.

Hi Wurzel, with regards to the main argument, i have heard that the total value of bass landed commercially in the uk is something like 3 mill per year, no doubt someone will correct me if i'm wrong. Of that we are not looking at a massive value of the bass take say from 36-40 cm. Unless the majority of bass landed is 36cm. There always has been massive anomaly between the uk and france regarding loads of items, i.e. fags, booze, fuel, etc. The majority of them are cheaper to purchace over there in any event. So the argument of the bass anomaly could only be on a very small scale. I would not imagine that there would be a lot of transits going over there to fill up with 36cm bass.

Personally even if the bass stock is healthy, i would like to see the bass stock be given a chance to grow into a very healthy stock and value for everyones benifit. At the top end i think the eu should be doing more to again increase the stock and value. But i dream. Cheers.

i have to agree Barry, a thought though, if British merchants are buying undersized bass (by our standards)from french sources then surely the answer to levelling the playing field and giving both sides of this (rsa and commercial) common ground is to ban the RETAIL of these fish, therefore removing any incentive to buy the fish and reducing the incentive for catching them as a market is then removed. Any thoughts Barry? Wurzell?

If I ever get the hang of it they'll bloody well ban it!

Hi Roryh, the only thing i can add to this at present without any imput from others is that the uk actually export our bass to france rather than the reverse, in particular the channel isles.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

You are right Steve a dead bass is dead whether it is sold or not, and it will effect their earnings by not landing them.

but the main argument is that the French will land them and sell them quite legally to British merchants because the British caught bass are crab food. It's hard for rsa to grasp but try putting your selves in the commercial fishermen’s shoes for a moment, nobody likes a cut in wages.

How would you feel if your merchant told you he had to buy in French caught bass at 36 to 40 cm because you had to throw yours away?

thats the bit (above) i was working from Barry, ( know its a bit old but as you can understand i've been a bit busy lately).

If I ever get the hang of it they'll bloody well ban it!

Hi Roryh, I have read that previously, i do think that the amount involved in any event could not have a significant cost implication. I could be wrong however, there might just be a market for 36cm bass in the uk, i would imagine the french market is stronger however.

i've heard people extolling 3lb bass as had to edit this as the phrase has been used recently that a fish of this size was "huge"

Hello Barry

As normal with rsa you are wrong.

The amount involved might not be significant compared to the national dept or even the total value of all commercial fish landed in the UK, but to individual small time inshore fishermen it could easily cost him 5 or £600 from his weeks work which is significant to them.

I fish to live and live to fish.

Good evenin Wurzel, acourding to you i am way off the mark, could you please explain to me the differance in the take of 36cm compared to the total amount of bass landed. What is the percentage?

Is this why there is massive resistance in trying to increase the size of the stock because they are relying on that class of fish for a living? If so in my mind then something is wrong, it isn't given chance to grow to a size to make it really worth catching. What else should be happening to increase the size of the fish for everyones benifit? Why do we no longer hear reports of the shore angler catching bass in the size range of five to eight pounds as used to be the case. It doesn't matter too much to me, when i want to find a big bass i go and find a wreck somewhere but that is me being selfish.

Hi wurzel

As normal with commercials its all about MONEY!! and they will kill anything that swims to get it, the size or maturity of the species has little irrelevence to them imo this cannot be denied, i guess in time when whats left of the industry finally goes belly up the sea might just get a little rest but unfortunately it will probably take the rsa with it :( :( :(
