Sportsman 350
Another British rod/blank maker closes. I have just heard that Conoflex have closed down. I have used the blanks to make up beachcasters in the past, in fact the first ever rod I made up, back in the 70s was on a conoflex blank. More recently my two favourite carp rods are on 1.75lb through action glass blanks from Conoflex. Another victim of cheap imports I suppose. philocalist 57
Picked up on this back in February - it is indeed very bad news, as the blanks they make / made were difficult to better. Loads of rumours have floated around since about possible takeovers etc, but I think the current status is that they are shiopping out / honouring final orders before vacating the premises :-(
Vagabond 1013
Conoflex works was just a mile or so away at Jarvis Brook industrial estate. Many years ago I got them to make a couple of custom-made light beachcasters for me. They measured my height, reach and grip - it was like having a suit made at an old-fashioned bespoke tailors ! Best beach rods I have ever handled. Sad news indeed, and fresh news to me, although as I rarely see the angling press , I don't follow developments in the tackle trade. Tony U 36
Very sad news indeed I have had a number of conoflex rods over the years, DC6, Flick tip and I still own a Scorpion Sport. I must admit I now use Century, when I need to use a conventional beachcaster. Tony After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.
