Trouble is theres this modern phenomenon of care ,50 years ago we ate the buggers by the ton ,used knotted nets (if not wire ones) piled them high on rocky banks and chucked them back in and there were plenty ,now we treat them like kids and theres far less ,perhap the problem is not what happens to fish out of water but the polutants they live in in the water

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

Maybe your generation screwed it up for us with that attitude since you say there 'were plenty' and now there isnt.

Can't help wondering how long this thread would be if that had been a couple of dozen carp instead of tench in the net . . . . .

Mat

Not very long, if I had anything to do with it Mat. :)

Probably same length as this. Too many sensible people here sitting on the fence shouting 'ah but....'

Im just glad it aint pike this time.

It's a few dozen tench, what I'm guessing is a eastern European country, Andy. How is that going to impact on your, or anyone elses fishing in the UK?

If people want to complain about the treatment of fish, then do it about the treatment they get in this country. The haphazard restocking, just to suit some angler who can't, or can't be bothered travelling to where the species already exist. The stocking of species that breed with and dilute the true strain of indigenous species. The overstocking of single species, to increase their profitability, and boost the ego of some anglers, and their escape into surrounding waters to the detriment of the existing species, and water quality. The stocking of so called 'exotic' species with little, or no thought into the effects on existing species. As you know I could go on and on, (I often do). With all this, and more happening here, there's no point in getting your knickers in a 'birds nest', about something that's too far away for you to have any influence on.

No 'fence sitting' here Andy, and never has been.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Maybe your generation screwed it up for us with that attitude since you say there 'were plenty' and now there isnt.

Probably not ,you can see by any country that takes fish by hundreds of tons for the pot (the one in the thread for example) its pretty sustainable ,since "care" has become foremost the fish stocks have dropped ,there was far more fish about even ten years ago than now in this area and "care" has been mandatory in joining clubs almost everywhere.

You explain why the more we "care" the less their is to care for ? I suggested unseen pollutants obviasly you blame the past ,its pretty pointless caring for a fish for 15 seconds then putting it back into an environment perhaps harmful to it and ignored by the club and the EA

As i suggest in feeding birds topics perhaps our caring is actually doing far more harm than we as yet realise ?

Heaven knows what a hundred weight of processed fish bait a month does to a water?
