yet again I have to say that I don't think this has any place on anglersnet in open forums accessible by anyone including children.

I would NOT like my kids to see it. My daughters are 10 and 8. I prefer for them to grow up slowly and naturally. I am happy to talk to them about anything, and happy for them to see any images of a sexual nature (which this is) when appropriate.

I am absolutely not a prude!

Also having worked in ICT within schools, I can state categorically that that image if seen by a responsible adult (or many of the pupils) in school would get anglersnet blocked instantly (at least within highland council area).

Have to say I agree about the Peugot (and most of the other too!) But for the fact the daughter had to have the head gasket replaced on her 307 the other month, engine and box out to do the job!!!! NOT a good advert for me and I really DO like Peugots!!

I used to like Peugeots, I find the newer ones a bit ordinary. I had a 309 where you could get three of the spark plugs out without any bother or any need to remove anything else, and the 4th was an absolute bitch. I want to see one sold in France before I will be entirely convinced that they don't just do this kind of thing on cars bound for the UK.

Nick - I think that is the crux of the matter here.

I don't think you would get any argument if the photos were pornographic and, in fact, the topic would not have seen the light of day if that were the case. Absent pornography, it gets a little muddled though. Some folks are offended and put off by any photo showing a naked person while others are not.

Certainly the photo here is not in the best possible taste but most jokes are not. Certainly the photo shows a person who is probably female and who has the legs spread. While I'm sure a case could be made for pulling the topic, it is not a clear cut case and we opted to leave it.

When my kids ask me why that lady has no clothes on what do you advise I say?

When they say but can't people see her vagina what do I say?

Would you want your grand children looking at it?

I would have no problems with my grandchildren reading this topic.

When my kids ask me why that lady has no clothes on what do you advise I say?

"I'm not really sure. I imagine it was something they did to make the photo for this joke."

When they say but can't people see her vagina what do I say?

"Why yes, I guess they can".

Nick,

Don't take your kids to France for a beach holiday. Where my flat is in Luc-Sur-Mer I could walk along the beach in the summer time and see women in very similar poses catching some rays. The only difference would be that the would be lying on a beach towel, not a car bonnet and they would not be totally nude they would be wearing a g-string. What would you say if one of your daughters asked "Why is that lady lying on the beach with nearly no clothes on?" or "Does that lady know that everyone can nearly see her vagina'

If the images are in a private forum, nobody but members of that forum would be able to see them anyway. Elton asked in another topic whether AN should have such a forum. I think that AN would be better off without such a forum, even though I have no problem with the image per se.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

With newt and cory on this one I think.

If you had children that could comprehend the nature of the question to start with then the answers really ought to not be that shocking - I suspect the question is more shocking to the adult than the answer to the child. The realities of it are we have 14 year old girls knocked up on every soap programme before 8pm (some before 7pm!) - this is a 'real' problem, in the 'real' world as well and one could 'certainly form an argument' that the prudish mentality within the UK (which is world reknown) certainly doesn't combine well with the rebellious nature of teenagers.

We've got kids with guns, school kids (not much older than 10) stabbing each other in schools. Smoking and drinking from what eight years and upwards if you believe the media....

I am far from this at this stage - our monster is just 19 months old (although she has already learned how to push boys the same age around - must be genetic!), and over time my views may well change - BUT - we all need the face the realities of a modern changing world. As I said previously, I personally feel that I will struggle more to explain religion, war, death, poverty, racism and those sort of issues MUCH more than I would adult material. I also have more misgivings about religion and the like being pushed on children in schools (which it certainly was on us, even in bog standard state school), than I do adult material.

The big difference is if I was to holiday in france I would be there through my choice.

With pictures posted on this ANGLING site it is coming directly into my living room whether I wish it to or not.

I personally have no problem with the picture, somewhere out there are far worse ones featuring me! But I don't want them displayed on my PC when I visit a FISHING web site.

I choose not to watch the dross that passes itself off as entertainment, such as Eastenders, Neighbours etc - but if I did, again it would be my choice, these programmes feature real life, and I expect the whole gamut to be paraded there.

Once again this is an angling website!

But you watch the other programes, yes?

This isn't a fishing only site anymore since all the other forums arrived.

How many fish have you seen on the photo fourm? :)

I very rarely go on the sea fishing forum but it's there.

And I'm sure if Elton made it password only you wouldn't see it, unless you had the password. ;)

We need to stop disagreeing over an issue about which we are in concurrence. However one feels about the image in question, one still has the opinion that AN has no need for such appendage as an adult forum, and I fear that in the long term it may become detrimental to the reputation of the site.;)

PS I hate soaps too! :)
