I'm from near Langport and normally fish the Parrett along with some of the drains and occasionnally the Stour at Sturminster Newton.

I think it'll do me good to try out somewhere new and not sure if this makes much sense but living so close to where I fish (5 mins) can sometimes be a distraction. If the fishing's not too good and I say get a phonecall from someone, it's far too easy to pack up and do something else whereas if I've travelled an hour it makes it more of a trip/day out so I'd obviously sit it out.

The only thing holding me back is not knowing the state of the river in winter as I wouldn't want too many wasted journies.

I'm going to ring him later on and get a ticket I think. Never fished for barbel before so that is quite a draw on it's own.

I'll let you know if I get a ticket.

Ta,

Howard.
