Is there any logic to when you get the invite. My Windows 7 pc got it a week ago, but son and daughter on laptops have not yet received it, they are both on windows 8

the damn thing comes in the form of a windows update made to look like its a 'required' update. maybe they havnt updated their computers yet.

According to Myce.com, a March 27 non-security update aimed at Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows 8.1 Update -- the latter, the April 2014 refresh -- lays the foundation for a Windows 10 marketing and upgrade campaign. The update, identified by Microsoft as KB3035583, has been offered as "Recommended," meaning that it will be automatically downloaded and installed on PCs where Windows Update has been left with its default settings intact.

 

Microsoft was typically terse in the accompanying documentation for KB3035583, saying only that it introduced "additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications when new updates are available to the user."

 

Myce.com, however, rooted through the folder that the update added to Windows' SYSTEM32 folder and found files that spelled out a multi-step process that will alert users at several milestones that Microsoft triggers.

On top of Andy's reply it will only activate on "genuine" copies of windows and non enterprise versions.

In all honesty it's closer to 8.1 than anything. The return of the start button is nice and the utter lack of the metro interface and its app style is a blessing!

first thing i did with 8 was to downlaod 10bits start menu 8dsaying that the metro is fairly ok on a tablet but very annoying as it hops between metrp and desktop to run some things

 

and the fricking keyboard covers my typing unlike the playbook ,open the keyboard on that and the box you write in moves up so you can see it

According to my lad you have to upgrade to 8.1 which he has a problem doing as the upgrade keeps crashing. There are a number of reasons and he is working through it. It nearly worked when he disconnected the power lead, but it ran out of battery power before completion. Who designs this shite !!

mine upgraded itself ,i suddenly noticed one boot it said it was updating and thought it was the usual windows update thing but it took half an hour ,on rebooting it asked for my windows code which i typed in but it refused to work ,i tried rebooting a few times then i noticed (probably there all the time but generally it excepts the code on reinstalling) a second page which eventually gave me a huge number of numbers and a phone number ,on phoning this the nice lady asked me why i phoned i said it wouldnt except its code on upgrading read out all these damn numbers and she told me another lot to note down ,on typing them in win 8.1 happily worked

Is Windows 10 comparable to 8 and 8.1 or something new? I detest 8 and 8.1 so if it is I will stick with 7.
