Thank's for the comments Bartman, i'm glad you like the pic's :).

Your right about that placcy on the cork, I have several rods with their handles still clad in that plastic wrap, i'll have to peel the stuff off soon.

I had a mate at school who never took the plastic cover off his digital watch - sometimes he would peel the scabby plastic off to show you how pristine his watch face was underneath it!

Clever lad now hes flogged that highly collectable watch with its immaculate face hes laughing ,not sure taking the plastic off in some cases is wise ,with the plastic on easily wiped down to clean ,with it off goundbait gets into the pores ,this attracts mice which chew the cork ,then they start on the wiring nearbye ,your house burns down and you all die of burns 2 weeks later ,not so foolish now is it (wink)

I did at one time use 50/50 varnish and turps on my corks ,this semi sealed it but when i tried to flog one in part exchange the chap in the shop pointed out this ,rather dirty cork than varnished but a few seconds in either case with some sandpaper got rid of the mess ,i guess anything to get the price down

In future potential sales i would leave it on ,i deliberately spray clear lacquer on the paint of my metal detectors to stop some of the scratches with this in mind and the plastic gets a going over with armor all twice a year to keep that fresh ,its a pity spray on bed liner was so expensive over here thats handy stuff

I went aware for the forecast for thunder and heavy rain but I hoped the bbc would have it wrong as they so often do (as it was bright sunshine and 21c), but today they were right....barstewards !
I got to a swim I fancied after about 3/4 of a mile walk to find I hadn't put the bleedin' maggots in my neck bag. Obviously if I wanted to fish I had to trudge back for the shyster's. By the time I got back with them the clouds had already started to change colour and the wind was picking up. I got a chub on the first trott and then had a few dace in the first swim. After 20 min's trotting through the first swim I had a move upstream to another of my haunts and after a dozen or so trotts through I hooked a barbel. Just after catching the barbel the wind got too strong for comfort and if you looked at the chop on the surface it looked like the river was flowing back upstream. The sky went black and the rumble of thunder getting nearer was my cue to hoof-off.
Unfortunatly for me I was caught in a torrential downpour which was so hard it actually run down my trousers and filled my thigh waders !
Half an hours car drive home and it was still raining but it soon cleared up and it's now a very nice evening.
I wish i'd taken notice of the forecst now.

It was a beautiful day on the river Ian. You just got up to late. :)

Yeaph, your right Brain, first thing in the morning in hot weather is usually always the best part of the day followed by last hour of daylight. Thing is i've been having my best results catching barbel during the mid-day heat.
