Matt Hayes says flavoring maggots is useless because it quickly washes out, I swear it gives me an edge.

...and I'd say you were quite right.

Consider how maggots are used as loose feed.

Little and often.

Once you have got the fish feeding they will take most of the maggots before they reach the bottom

The object is to get fish looking for each successive pinch of maggots.

So you actually WANT the flavour to wash off, scent the adjacent water and keep fish in the swim, or if fishing a river, for fish to follow the scent trail upstream until they find your maggots.

The same applies to a swim feeder, PROVIDED you replenish it often, and keep casting it to the same place.

So yes, the flavours wash off, and that's what they are supposed to do!

Dont know if it really helps but in winter u use a small maggot feeder i only want about a dozen maggots in it the rest of the feeder i fill up with sponge soaked in a liquid flavouring preffering the spicy flavours in the winter. PS i only use this on rivers casting every 5-10 mins. so theres just a trickle of maggots going through the swim and the scent getting wafted down stream.

everytime i catch a fish i'm lucky when i blank i'm a hopeless angler.
