Like Pike, they have to survive and if left alone for long enough, they'll find a natural balance I'd think.

Did you vote Yes Dave? Can't really figure out whether you like them alive or cooked :)

Me? I think they are just overgrown rats that eat fish, no way would I eat one :)

Young ones are lovely, older ones tend to be a bit tough and need much longer cooking. ;)

You lot! :D

I was going to put a long question about whether you like the idea of sharing your favourite venues with (live) otters, but plumped for the simpler question.

Hmmmm....with hindsight.....

Seriously, yes. I like 'em. It has only been over the last few years that I have begun seeing them again. Now we see them regularly again on the lake. Wonerful to see a head pop up right out in the middle half a mile from shore and dissapear again. Sometimes they spoil the fishing by working their way down the shore, 30 to 50 yards out, right in my casting area. One one memorable day last year, we found ourselves sharing the same bay with both a pair of otters and an osprey. We didn't catch anything, the otters probably did and we could see for sure that the osprey did.

I wouldn't mnd in the slightest if there was an otter or a seal in my swim. For me, fishing isn't just about fishing. It's also a lot to do with being out in the countryside, and seeing the wildlife in their own environment. After all, it's I who am the intruder into their territory.

Whilst on a camping holiday a couple of years ago, we were fishing with a crab line off the jetty in Mallaig, and had a fabulous sight of a huge seal cruising round in the clear waters, trying to take the fish we were catching. We couldn't catch any crabs, as the pollack took the bait as the line went down. I've never removed bait from the water so fast!

An otter though? Nope. I've never seen one, but I'll feel very privileged if I ever do....
