Last night I took my son fishing on a local lake, we were after tench and were float fishing bread flack fished over depth.

I caught a Perch!!! the bait was static, The other strange thing was the perch had a bright blood red head.

I have never caught perch on bread before and I have never seen a perch with a bright red head, I have been fishing fo 37 years!!!

I can only think this has somting to do with spawning, Anyone seen anything like this before??

i love perch, more so than pike they are fun to catch, comical at times and can realy give a good fight, they are even nicer too look at when they grow to over 2lb.

I've caught the odd perch on bread over the years, but it is highly unusual.

I've never seen one with a bright red head though! However it's unlikely to be due to spawning as perch usually spawn late April/early May.

BTW, it's rarely mentioned but many perch have a blue chin! The effect is most apparent in perch from clear water.
