Mackerel/bass marks. Cowes

Sheepy

Recommended Posts

Im going to be down on the south coast next week, staying in the marina at Cowes (as well as Shamrock Quay and Bucklers Hard). Im hoping to pick up some mullet around the marinas but has anyone got any sugestions for places to catch mackerel or bass from the shore with my spinning set up.

Cheers. :)

43 views and no advice. Its unlike fishermen to hold back when given the chance to give their views ;)

P.S Im not after stripping the place bare of all sea life, just a distraction for a couple of hours whilst on a family holliday. I promise all fish will be put back (well maybe a couple of mackerel for the bbq).

Sheepy- bass tend to be habitual, so its unlikely anyone will volounteer marks, as its all too easy to have them stripped in no time- then no more bass at that mark.

No doubt someone will say different, but have seen this first hand. So even if you are well behaved, then anyone can pick up the marks from the web.

Mackerel wise, if you touch them they will die (see sticky at the top), so catch and release is difficult. Piers are usually the best shot for them, but usually best to just catch what you want with them. If they are there, try using a single lure to prolong your fishing experience.

Cheers, have read the above. The lightes line im likely to be fishing with is 6lb so the plan is to lift any mackerel out hand line style when close in and use forceps to unhook (im fishing barbless) without touching the fish.

Cheers Grant for the reply, as for the rest of you lot who viewed and are on the south coast you are a right lot of unhelpful misserable buggers. Over on the coarse and fly forums everyone is always very helpful and free with advice. Whats the matter scared i might catch something?

I'm misserable at the moment as i'm crock so i don't have advise to give at the mo. I'd rather be fishing.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Sheepy- the best bit of advice you can get is buy 'Hooked on Bass'- you then have something to read on holiday, some of the best advice you will need, and I think there are some Isle of Wight stories in there as well!

That's a bit harsh. How many of the recent Leicestershire related threads have you contributed to on the Coarse or Carp forums? You can't slag people off for doing the same as you do :P:) .

Hi Sheepy

Shore fishing for bass, try fishing on the west side of Cowes harbour enterance just east of Gurnard.

If you drive along the front there is a little lighthouse try there and afew hundred yards west of there there is a bank that runs out from the shore try there also

Abit weedy sometimes
