Are they ok to use?

Assuming you mean brandlings - the stripey ones that smell of cabbage that you get in compost bins - some people swear by them, and others think they're more or less useless. I fall into the latter category. There was a thread on here recently about how to tell a redworm from a brandling from a dendrobaena, and their respective value as bait, so it might be worth doing a search for it.

If you mean brandlings I wouldn't touch them, I used to dig them on my grandads middin(cow sh*t) and only ever caught Perch and very few of them.

Brown Trout absolutely love them but I'm not sure that they have long enough to let them pass by, in a moving river or stream, so they could be wolfing them down automatically. It might be that fish in stillwaters have long enough to have a taste at them, before rejecting them due to the repellent yellow liquid they exude.

Wonderful bait I have had tench up 6lbs and bream to 8lb they love them

Are dendrobenas just another name for Brandlings. If so then they are a very grood bait, however if Iwas offered a kilo of dendra's or a Kilo of Reds it would be reds every time.
