2015 Rutland zander fish-in

Vagabond, we were discussing your sad absence from the fish-in earlier this evening, and I remarked "Dave is a nice chap, but I don't think he suffers fools gladly, I pity anybody who annoys him after depriving him of his fishing" - oh dear, I may have been prescient!

I've never met Dave, but I suspect that he doesn't suffer fools at all, never mind gladly. Especially if they are the preaching religious kind.

I hope you lot have a good day, the weather at least, seems favourable. I've some questions to ask when you get back.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Now then Stephen, the thought never entered my head, (not this time anyway :D ).

You being a global type angler, might be able to answer my question. I haven't fished in deep freshwater for preds, but I have in saltwater. When trolling deep water for these "non-native" fish :bleh:, do you just let the lure follow the drift, or do you work the lure as well?

Never trolled for freshwater predators, so will be interested in the answer. Always used a down rigger when sea fishing abroad. My guess is they work the lure when drifting which is what I would do for vertical jigging for Tarpon, Snapper , Grouper etc.

I've never met Dave, but I suspect that he doesn't suffer fools at all, never mind gladly. Especially if they are the preaching religious kind.

I thought I suffered this particular fool long enough. Firstly I said I did not wish to discuss anything and "please leave". That didn't work, so I suggested he was in need of psychiatric help, and added more assertively, "now go away"

Finally my patience snapped and I said, "as you don't understand modern English, I will try Anglo-Saxon, so now F*** OFF"

What brought the sister was the rise in BP and pulse rate on her screen (I was attached to a monitor) Perhaps the set up would be useful for zander location :)

Now if I were (say) a member of an eastern religion, I might say his approach was, insulting, disrespectful to my faith, harrassing and discriminatory - action for compensation to follow..........

Why are these maggots allowed to prowl hospital wards seeking the vulnerable ? The answer seems to be "because they are volunteers" and therefore must be "good people" Perhaps they said that of Saville.

Gozzer - if there is enough drift to move the boat, you lower the lure to the bottom and work it, jerk up, controlled descent to the bottom on a tight line.

If, like much of today, you are becalmed, you cast it out, let it sink to the bottom, and retrieve it, sink and draw, followed by a bit of the previous technique under the boat.

That's pretty much what I thought Steve. I only asked because I've never heard anyone mention 'working' the lure, in any of the posts on here.

Your post struck a chord with me Dave, because we seem to be having a spate of 'God botherers', (of various denominations) around here recently. So much so, that I'm beginning to lose patience with them. I'm usually a little more polite than you were, and often enjoy the little sparring sessions, but after four visits in just over two weeks the enjoyment, and politeness is waning, and I can see myself being a bit less accommodating in future.

John.

What annoyed me most was that I was being preached at whilst still groggy from an operative procedure (they inject a lot of radio-opaque dye which causes visual migraine, mild hallucinations, and obviously interferes with speed of thought) Normally I can see these people off with patronising ultra-politeness whilst suggesting they have a psychiatric problem. But at age 81 I have better things to do than argue philosophy with every deluded nincompoop that crosses my path, particularly whilst I am not feeling too well.

The very fact that these people seem to think they are emissaries of some sort of god indicates delusion. They should not be anywhere near hospital patients at a low ebb.

I thought this had been discussed quite a lot!

It was a good day yesterday, plenty of fish caught and several decent ones, despite the weird weather. It was hot, bright sunshine and pretty much flat calm all day. Full report to follow when I get time, I'm away this weekend so won't have s chance to post. But thanks everyone for coming and I hope you enjoyed it :)
