whats going on with A-N

Feels like its slowly grinding to a halt. Its getting increasingly slow (server speed), double posts quite regularly even if you just click submit once and wait for quite a while (i just got a triple post in pluto thread), no posts in coarse fishing for 24 hours sometimes. And then there are tons of placed ads in my posts, the search page shows pages and pages of a-n ads, and seems newt is the only mod and wheres Elton gone to.

Is anglersnet being allowed to die ? Its sad to see as im quite fond of this place and the colorful characters who still visit.

I've noticed a lot of the same but don't forget that the evil weed that is social media is responsible for a lot of it.

I can't stand Facebook myself which is one reason why I'm still here.

I do get a sense that classical forums like this one are a dying breed. Maybe the move to social media is a good one but it really doesn't appeal to me at all. Lately, new members seem to be a bit less common than teeth on a chicken.

Software performance does seem to be getting slower & slower although the double post issue is becoming less common. Elton & Si seem to have gone missing and since they did the periodic maintenance & upgrades, I'm not sure it will get any better.

Facebook is evil ,i do play on it to keep up with the kids and rellies but i have just put a new hard disk in my neices lap top ,all went fine with a fresh install of win 7 it literally flew ,i transferred over her settings and files (162 bloody gigs worth!) then i installed google and its slowed down noticeably then facebook and it slowed more ,switch off facebook and dont use chrome and its better.

As for the site its a shame it was a vibrant place once lots of jokey arguments and plenty of controversy but lively ,now its just a few diehards ,i try to stir things up like the old days but i guess my official AN contrarian status is no longer bit on or i,m on so many ignores the place looks dead.

Its not though just the non fishing side but all of the rest and i cannot be blamed for that surely

Ps if you want slow with continual server errors (and the resulting miss posts) try a 1.5mb connection and an ancient (in computing terms) blackberry playbook ,sometimes the text appears so slow in the posting box you could use snail mail faster.

I have a cheap windows tablet to replace it but i like the playbook it at least doesnt hide the words as you type like the bloody windows one does!

Ps if your investing in a tablet one of the top things you want is a decent screen ,i bought a really cheap android one and realised at 10.1" 600 lines was crap (the 7" playbook has 800) probably the worst screen ever and impossible to see with even a tiny tilt from face on

It went back under the 14 day cool off period and the windows one is full hd and 8.9" inches so your wrist doesnt go to sleep holding it

don't even have a facebook account for my personal use!

I do have a fake account to link to games etc

juts cant understand the yearning desire to crawl facebook...

as for AN..its abysmally slow on my ipad...and even seems to be taking a fair bit longer to load on the various pc's I use.

I have to say this is one of the only forums I regularly visit these days.

Had a look at the AN facebook page lastnight and see its quite active although mostly just pictures being uploaded. I reckon we've been ditched lads

Fb has a lot to answer for and most pobably the death of most forums. Ive started to use fb to try and draw people away from it and back on to the pit forums and it works. Maybe Elton could do the same.

Like Kiri, I have a facebook account to allow easy log on to games and various websites but dont use it for anything else.

However, social media is the choice of almost everyone these days. Eventually the traditional forums will die out unless they can keep a hardcore following of luddites.

Its the ease of use and accesibility of fb that probably makes it so popular. I say that because it sure as hell cant be the information provided.

I cant think of one single instance where ive been on fb and read a good discussion about rigs and tactics and have learned absolutely nothing from it. Its like people dont even try. You get pages and pages of people tagging their mates and people adding their own pics to a discussion and fir what ? ( look at me look at me im a *like* whoore)

Forums on other hand have an incredible wealth of knowledge that doesnt even come close to fb's disposable content that you cant even search to find out the info you are looking for.

I cant wait for the death of fb but i dont think it will ever happen

Grasshopper minds, Andy To take your quote further, its " Look at me, look at me, no not that one, I'm doing something else now"

I have nothing to do with either Facebook or Twitter (The very names convinced me it would be a waste of my time)

I had hoped the existing AN would last me out, but I'm no longer sure of that.
