Hook-tyers....easy, Glenn, next time we fish together I'll show you, and I'm as cack-handed as they come with these things!!!

Small hooks, as Chris says, yup, I've got a box of 26's, although with my eyesight I'm not sure the hooks are still in there :) I used to have some 28's as well, but, I errrrr.....lost them :)

I just found this thread whilst doing a search and has to smile at Newt's comment.

"I've pretty given up on anything below a #6 as having too small an eye to see well enough to tie."

Sorry Newt but they don't have eyes. I've tied spade end 24's to half a pound breaking strain mono by hand before now and I totally agree with the comments about hook tyers- I never could get on with them.

My hook tyer (matchman type), has finally given up the ghost after twenty odd years the plastic cracked by the second post.

I have had to pay out the princely sum of £2.99 to replace it.

Invaluable piece of kit if you use small spade end hooks and have fingers like bananas

The smallest I ever use are 22's. I have no problem tying them (with a tyer).

The problem I have is getting them out of the fishes mouth without bending them to bits as they're so fine. I normally catch about 5-10 fish before I have to swap.

I lost 2 half decent sized chub last time I was out due to them just straightening out.

Elton sent me a packet that claimed to contain #24 hooks. I thought the packet was empty but the wife (younger and better eyes) said there was something inside.

I'm in awe of anyone who can even fish with those, much less tie them.

Howard 13 to unhook these small hooks even if the fish is only lip hooked I will use a disgorger, this mens you can put the pressure applied to remove the hook directly into the bend of the hook and not bend the shank, give it a try it works for me. I just tied up a selection of hooks, from size 22 up to size 6, for the 22's to size 18's I now find it easier to use a hook tyer, but bigger than that I have more confidence in hooks Ive tied by hand.

I'm lost in admiration for anyone who can tie hooks smaller than a size 20. I have always considered myself to be relatively dextrous (in addition to tying all my own rigs etc., I tie my own flies), but I can't cope with the microscopic sizes mentioned on this thread (and add me to the list of those who can't get on with hook tiers).

22s, 24s and 26s - and even smaller in some cases, it seems - words fail me.

The smallest hooks I have ever tied were 16's. With the lack of feeling in my fingers even picking them from the packet is a major trial.

A hook tier is just as much of a problem - so I buy hooks to nylon (which I don't trust) - if I have to, or I don't fish that small. Simple really - just pracical.
