I dont have a problem with using the camera memory card in a reader only when the camera itself is plugged into usb .

I would think most modern card readers can read modern HC cards mines fine with 64gb which is the biggest card i can test

 

I have also found usb ports on my machine are rather picky ,my mouse sender works in the left hand port of my double usb dooda but not in the right but the right works with anything else put in it .

Not a power problem all my ports are 2amp rather than the 500mA norm

 

My usb3 ports are not fully backward compatible either ,a usb2 drive disappears after ten minutes but in a usb 2 port stays visible ,the port is still active but the drive goes to sleep ,none are allowed to be switched off by windows in settings
