Firstly, I must say that I am the father of two daughters and think the kidnap of this little girl is a monstrous crime and I hope they find her safe and well.

What I am having trouble understanding is the behaviour of her parents.

Firstly, if her parents had been social security misfits from a rundown area, they would have been hounded by the media for leaving her alone and probably prosecuted.

These parents have done the tour of Europe and North Africa, publicising her disappearance and appearing on TV, in newspapers, magazine articles etc., all of which made some sense.

Now they are in America , where the father is "studying US child protection methods" and appearing on TV shows, in newspapers and magazines articles.

Both have fulltime jobs that they have been absent from for some long time, which once again is understandable if they are still traumatised, but all this World travel ?

They now state they are learning Portugese and may not return to the UK.

Cynics are starting to question where all the money that has been sent in for rewards, etc., is going.

Their website has a PayPal link for making donations and today states, " Donations of £946,843.92 have been received to the fund to date.

I don't consider myself a cynic, but I do look at all this and think something is not quite right.

Well it would appear that there are a lot of cynics on here as I have thought the same thing for some time now, but hesitated to post because I would be branded as unfeeling!

i dont really blame them, until you find yourself in a similar situation i dont think any of us can judge?

if people were happy to doante the money then wheres the problem? i hardly think they are sitting back thinking, brilliant we have nearly a million pounds in the bank lets go on a world tour? given the choice im sure they would have much rathered have there child back.

With all the publicity, its is unlikely that the girl is still alive, as the kidnapper(s) would have needed to get rid of the evidence very quickly.

This is what all the experts are saying, but still the bandwagon rolls on.

Whilst I can understand them clinging to hope, the commercialism that is now surrounding this tragic event, is almost unseemly.

1 million pounds is a lot of money and I am sure they would rather have their daughter back, but 1 million pounds is a lot of money.

They left their children alone to go for a meal.

They chose not to hire a local babysitter.

They claim that they could see their apartment "about 50 yards away", but they couldn't see it well enough to protect their children, obviously.

Why are they being lauded as suffering martyrs ?

What is their crusade ?

Education for parents, so they don't leave their children unattended when they are on holiday ?

Myself being a father of two children my son who is almost 11y and daughter of 3y, noway would i ever think of going out and leaving them on their own. i like most would say that they are over protective and to think of going for a meal and leave them is madness we all know they wake at night and get up come into your room looking for you perhaps a bad dream or wet the bed anything? You do not leave kids on their own full stop.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
