Went wrecking on Saturday in mid-channel, as we crossed the hurd deep I noticed a load of birds sat on the water so veered off to investigate. It turned out to be a flock of 200+ gannets, some of which we feeding (divebombing). As the water was 120m deep I told my mate that something must be forcing the baitfish to the surface, and as we got closer we saw that it was a pod of about 20 dolphins feeding, so we stopped. Within seconds they had come over to inspect us and swam around the boat for about 5 minutes before returning to their meal.

Video is 2.8Mb so not advisable for dial-up.

Pics - multishot mode worked well to capture the creatures as they zoomed under the boat. The dolphins only swam round the side that we were leaning over, and we could hear them squeaking to each other.

The fishing was OK too - we had plenty of ling to 17lb, and my mate had his first ever ling of 17lb, first cod of 15lb, and first tope of ~20lb (returned). All on live joeys.

Superb! What a moment.

 

That must be the first real-life angling video that I've listened to with no swearing in, too :D

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

Fishing south of the deep may seem attractive to you because mainland boats don't fish there that much, but the CI boats do it all the time. Heck, it's only 6 miles from Alderney. Our commercial rod&line boats are having to do 40 miles to find enough fish now, so it's only the true 'mid-channel' areas that don't get fished that much, and they're on your side of the deep.

 

Chesters - Apparently one of our charterboats (no longer fishing) used to throw a pirk connected to sharking gear at basking sharks, foulhook them, then give everybody a turn at the rod before releasing the shark at the side of the boat!! Very popular with the Dutch and German anglers I hear.
