RAID / SATA I / SATA II

On a server I'm responsible for, we've got a two disk RAID 1 array with SATA drives. One of the drives has died and needs to be replaced. I've done this before, but it's been under warranty and I've just fitted the identical replacement drive the vendor sent to us. The exact model of drive is now obsolete. The spec is 160GB SERIAL ATA150 7200RPM HDD/8MB CACHE. The closest I've found is 160GB SERIAL ATA300 7200RPM HDD/8MB CACHE from the same manufacturer.

Question is, are SATA I / SATA II connectors different, and if they aren't, can I mix them in the same RAID array? I believe some drives can be set to operate in SATA I or SATA II mode by setting a jumper. Is that common?

I think the connectors are the same and that it will just work, but I must confess I am not 100% sure.

This may help

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Thanks, that does help; the connectors appear to be the same. I think we'll just order the drive and see what happens.
I would, you can always send it back if it does not work.

If you set the BIOS of the PC under SATA operation to "combination" then they should work

If you can lie on the floor without holding on, then you’re not drunk.
