I HATE Vista

Recommended Posts

I took delivery of my new desktop today, which has been preinstalled with Vista. I have been using it for about two hours and I am ready to throw the computer through the window. There is as much chance of me still using this operating system a week from now as there is of me sitting here and plucking all my pubic hairs out with my artery forceps.

The only decision is, do I install XP or kick Microsoft out of my life for good and get some Linux derivative?

Tell me what features are doing your head in and I'll tell you if they can be disabled or not. Now that I have got it set up properly, it feels like what XP should have been.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

And our dog thinks his danglies are a VISTA!!!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

I hate the fact that I have no idea what the directory structure is.

I hate the fact that it seems to assume everybody wants to do the same things.

I hate the fact that a window opens up asking me if I'm sure I want to do whatever it is I want to do, and then asks me to enter a password before it will do it. I'm not a five year old.

I hate the fact that the graphics use so much processor time that my new duo 2gig processor computer seems no faster than the old piece of junk it's replacing and my XP laptop seems to leave it standing.

I hate the fact that even though all I have installed so far is the operating system and Office I've used 20 gigabytes of hard disk! Twenty thousand million bytes of data, that's FIVE MILLION BBC model B operating systems.

It's just a big bloated obscenity of an operating system which i have no intention of working around. I thought Microsoft overegged the pudding with XP, but Vista is just beyond a joke. An operating system should be like the referee in a football match, unnoticed while the stars (or the applications) get on with the game

Well thats me sold on Vista then. Thanks for the heads up Colin , although i have read / heard some pretty poor reports about the new OS. Oh well XP for me then.

Vista Ultimate is a 7gig install and thats before you update drivers etc.

If you want the feel of vista then revert to XP and then slap on a vista skin and subsequent goodies // google sidebar is better than vista's and Rocket dock is an excellent desktop addition.

I went the vista route a while ago and only lasted a couple of weeks due to it being so resource hungry and audio incompatibilities for dj-ing on the web am back with a skinned XP and oodles of free crunching power

I've not found it (Vista Home Premium) too bad, running on two dual core laptops, an Intel Centrino and an AMD Athlon, each with 1Gb RAM.

BUT, I've disabled:

Aero

The UAC (User Account Control)

The Sidebar

The Security Centre Notification and Icon

Google Desktop (preinstalled)

The Quick Launch Bar

Cheers

Ian.
