IS THIS A PHISHING USERNAME SCAM?

Just received a spam email today(see below) from someone who has obviously been collecting usernames from forums to put together his promotion/scam. This is not the only forum I use this username on, so it could have been picked up elsewhere. Obviously, I didn't respond or click any links.

I'd advise extreme caution, if anyone else receives a similar email

According to the email, they've got your details from a soccer site. Are you a member of that?

Nope (at least not to my knowledge) I have no idea how they got my details.

 

I can understand why you moved this, but don't you think it's worth a mention on the forums? I know I never read this one and if it is a dodgy scam, it'd be a shame for people not to know about it. Is there any way someone can access my email address by coming on here?

The only way they can it to have you email address in your profile so that its visible to anyone.

 

Other than that, there's no possible way that anyone can get it from here.

Could be any number of ways.

 

An insecure script on another website, dodgy software that puts user accounts into flat file databases (text files), anything really.

 

Its unbelievable how spammers get email addresses. There's one email address that both Elton and I use, which has never been released publicly anywhere, yet we receive spam on that every now and again.

 

It's just one of those things that we have to put up with as an online user.

As the email you received actually tells you that they got your details from soccer-art.co.uk, have you tried contacting soccer-art.co.uk?
