Spend some time just looking for fish....if you are fishing and one shows in another swim, move on to it.

3" popup Tutti frutti...........catches every winter for me :)

Mike

Treat it basically the same as your summer fishing, but just use less of everything. Until you are SURE there are fish feeding in your swim keep the loose feed down to a minimum, a small golf ball size PVA mesh parcel, or a 2/3 bait PVA stringer.

As in the earlier post - move to the fish you can see.

As for Day/Night - depends on the water and the mood of the fish.

Good luck, and enjoy it however it goes.

I tend to agree with Alan but same as Den Ive found pop ups best in Winter, especially brightly coloured ones. Some of my best winter carp sport came on relatively short day sessions with the warmest part of the day (usually around midday) the best. Dont bother with it now though so not that up on any modern trends,

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Mike, two of us are fishing today (very soon :) ) Ted is looking around the Mill, I shall have a look on loggies, we will phone each other if either of us see some fish movement.

But then we may simply find a couple of old favorite swims out of the wind :) or even on Stour !

I found that the times between 11am and 2pm for me anyway produced the most fish in the winter months, i have done w/ender sessions in Jan, Feb time buurrrrrrrr...and only ever had 2 fish in the dark...long hours of darkness.

I don't feel for the time and effort put in on a winter night carp session is worth the rewards..hit the day time slots and find a water that has good stock levels of carp, but go light and move if you need, its amazing how a carp will move about in the winter when you think its just sitting in the weed !

As for baits its already been said really but bright single hook baits, i rate and if i had the choice of one, it would be white chocolate in a 10mm, i had a Feb 30lb mirror two seasons ago.. very very rewarding, and the colours in the fish are stunning....good luck. ..

As far as baiting is concerned, try to adopt the little and often approach, offering about 15-30 baits over a session. Loose feed these a couple at a time at regular intervals of about 30 minutes and try not to spread the bait around too much. As in the summer, it’s a good idea to try using bait which is similar in flavour to what is around naturally. Swan mussel and crayfish are still active at this time of year so if your venue contains these, try something like this.....
