Perch in the rain

I'm going perch fishing next Tuesday with a couple of friends, and Metcheck says we might get some light rain. Unlike pike (I've never caught a pike in the rain) I have done OK with perch in rainy conditions before, but I was wondering if that's a generally accepted thing or if it's specific to the waters I've fished. What do you think?

Obviously if it's a bit rainy it means it's overcast and that's always a good thing, but can the rain itself put them off? What about really heavy rain?

BTW it's a small stream which should be just about in perfect nick in terms of level and colour following the floods.

I've had some of my best catches of big perch in heavy rain. In fact, I often choose to go fishing in such conditions. I strongly suspect it's due to the low light levels.

Good luck!

I would agree with Steve about rain.

What big perch don't seem to like is strong winds - what say you Steve?

Agreed! However I don't think it's so much the wind itself rather the undertow that often (but not always) goes with it.

I've found that stillwater perch often feed where the undertow slackens off. In other words similar to a river where they like areas where the current slows down.

Interesting stuff, thanks guys. This will be useful on Saturday when I'll be stillwater perch fishing. So much perch fishing, so little time... :)
