Hi Chesters- Bluetooth and wireless b, g and n use the same band 2.4gHz but use a different signalling method. I think this means that you can't walk into an openzone and use bluetooth, but then I don't use BT so I don't know if they even have it.

If BT is like most other places they will be using wireless b, or g.

Just looked at the other link you posted (the PDF) it looks like you have both. Which means you can connect anywhere. (even your neighbors) Don't log into your bank or anywhere else you consider personal while using openzone.

on clicking the wireless icon only the bluetooth page is shown so i reckon i dont have full wireless function (cant find anywhere on the HP site that actually tells you which model has which hardware so i'm guessing the higher 2000 models have the full wireless setup whilst mine only has bluetooth)

so will the card above work with outside hotspots and home wireless setups or do wireless routers differ? cheers

it has no problem finding phones etc but thats the bluetooth bit

AHA found it

Integrated Wi-Fi for the hx2490 and hx2790 series enables connection at the office, home or Wi-Fi hotspots(1, 4)

mines an hx2110 so must have only bluetooth!

I'm not sure. It might be worth finding a local hotspot and see if clicking the icon will pick up a signal. Looking at the pdf it says that if one or more broadcast networks are in range the network indicator icon will appear. I bet you have to be in range of one for it to work.

If it has a wireless icon it may just be wireless capable.

(added) Was replying when you edited. Good on ya. Still worth a try no?
