We do not know the weight as he ate the fish soon after it was caught

Really!! Was he a hard up student, or are you wanting the title of Clown of Cheltenham? Get in line its already taken by Mr Kleinboet

All I can say about this is good on the fella, looks like a great catch and hope it gets accepted as the new record!!!

I'm not really a fisherman, I just like to think I am.

I just think the fish looks like a young fish for it's size. Usually Crucian's look old as they get bigger and go a deeper colour. It may well be a genuine Crucian that's kept it's youth full good looks.

I do think it is time we stopped trying to identify crucians/goldfish by some sort of "democratic vote"

Far too many errors of identification have been made by experts in the past (I mean professional experts - not the "experts" we have on the forum :P:P )

For anyone interested, the real deal is here

The BRFC have already stated "this is the way forward" so let's encourage the use of DNA profiling (by taking a scale or whatever other method that causes no harm to the fish)) whenever someone wants to claim a record.
