In a word....fabulous. In a few more words, probably the best month of the year, except maybe May.

Been like it for several years now :)

Ditto on the first week of April, first time I'll have been fishing since last October ... bloomin' June floods *grrr* Holding out for an April like the last one, seems like the months are running 4-6 weeks ahead of themselves, so April is more like the end of May.

Fished early March last year, private lake site, and didn't have much success. Admittedly I was showing someone else how to fish, so I wasn't concentrating.

the place where im going doesnt allowed groundbait or boilies.. so apart from all the obvious baits i can use does anyone have any alternatives, like any home made baits that you've used yourself.. what kind of bait sprays etc... ? any information is appreciated

Corn or maize is good as are maggots. If you fancy something boilie like, then make boilie paste, just don't boil it.

If you can find some young fresh weed, try a 24inch hooklength with two grains of plastic corn.............caught me 21 x20llbers in 4 afternoon sessions last April :) Me and another guy "rotated" the swim, he had 15 fish :)

Dont be scared to give them plenty to eat, early april i normally use a kilo of bait on each rod to start with, adding more if i see any activity or get a nibble.

Also as the water temps will still be quite low,its not a bad idea to stay away from anything too oily until later in the month

it tastes like burning
