Not all usb ports are equal ,i have usb bits and bobs that work in one port but not others and vice versa

Perhaps windows buggers up the drivers as it seems in many cases having install another lot if you plug into a different port than usual

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Its far easier to curse the darkness than light one candle

"To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical." Thomas Jefferson

It's not ports that are not equal it's devices.

This behaviour is explained in this post.

Xbox was a bit of a pain cory. Front usb provided 3.3v back one provided 5v noticed same on my old pc often had to swap and change devices to get them going.

New pc not a concern its got around 15 usb ports and 1 firewire. Do people still use firewire ive never had a device with one in my puff

Firewire is brilliant mate WAY better than USB. Most firewire devices have TWO ports so you can daisy-chan firewire devices in a similar way to SCSI. Firewire can supply upt to 30v and at least 7w per port and runs at up to 800 Mbps. Unless you've had a high end scanner, laser printer or a DV Video Camera or a Firewire HD you are unlikely to have used one.

The very latest incarnation Firewire S3200 runs at 3 Gbit/s

I have an external HDD with Firewire and USB 2.0 You can clearly see the two Firewire ports. Another nice thing about Firewire is that it looks like a network adaptor to windows so you can connect two PC's together with it.

oh aye that would be handy for pc to pc. Back before proper network routers (56k modems) and large enough usb memory sticks transfering via cross over was a massive pia
