one of my workmates who is also a good friend is an avid match angler, now this chap is a genuinly nice bloke but the other day while haveing a chat about a pike of over 30lb thats supposedly been caught locally,he replied that if he caught it he would (if there was nobody looking)smash it over the head and throw it in the bushes,I was totally gobsmacked. His point was that there was no place in the river for the pike because the fish are not that abudant in that area, surely if thats the case the pike wouldn't grow that big in the first place,It shocks me that in this day and age a fellow angler still has this attitude, after all a pike over 30lb would be to me and I suspect a lot of you a fish of a lifetime, the mind boggles.

Personally i think its a sign of his inadequacy as an angler the fact that feels the need to change things.

The other thing is when i look back at some of largest bags of fish Ive had (exceeding 1000lb in a day a few times and into the hundreds many times), they have nearly all come from waters that are good pike waters. In fact id go as far as to say if you are looking for good coarse waters look for good pike waters.

If you start messing with with the balance of fish in a water you risk messing that water up.
