If you have a problem with free movement, youre in for a world of hurt when this first easy stage is finished and we move on to the next complicated part of sorting out free trade deals with countries around the world.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

All,

In many aspects of brexit I agree with Anderoo, although I also now believe it is too late to "remain".

In theory and in post WWII practice trade has never been cheaper. The EU costs member states citizens about $0.34 a day.

Misguided from the git-go BREXIT is about nationalism, immigration, and ignoring responsibilities - all of which are OK by me.

Paranoia is rampant that if it ain't the immigrants it will be Germany for at least a third time. Everything else about the first BREXIT vote is BS/

The end of free movement is an erosion of our rights. If you think it means the end of immigration youre sadly mistaken. Immigration will remain at current levels whether free movement of EU citizens remains or not. If the number of Eu immigrants fall, the number of non-Eu citizens will rise. The levels of immigration will be completely unchanged, but uk citizens will be at a massive disadvantage. Ill dig out the charts if you need me to but this is very basic factual stuff.

I would like to see this "very basic factual stuff", as such "factual stuff" in such unpredictable and uncertain times must be treading on the toes of old Nostradamus.

As I've said before I can take it or leave it whether we end up remaining or leaving, i'll just accept it. What I find hard to accept is when MP's refuse to honour the wishes of the majority of the citizens who pay their salary, unlimited expense accounts and big fat pensions. I don't care what party they are members of, whether they are in power, in opposition or independent. A referendum was put to the country and an answer was given, regardless of whether the answer was to remain or leave it is their duty as public servants to carry out the wishes of the people. If for whatever reason they feel they can't or won't deliver on the wishes of the majority, then they should resign immediately from public office.

Likely to be mainstream news soon but really not unexpected, you think a Tory government has your/your kids/your grandkids best interests at heart? What do you think this whole project is for?

You could not have said it any better ?

How on Earth did you arrive at those conclusions?

Let's suppose for a moment that we leave with the EU with no deal and the next government is me - and I'm in particularly belligerent mood.

I decide that my new immigration policy is a much tougher version of the Australian points system, capped at 10,000 per year with zero associated chain migration.

Being magnanimous, I also consent to accept 2,000 genuine UN approved refugees per year, again with zero associated chain migration - and anyone caught illegally arriving from a "safe" EU country by plane, train boat or rubber dingy is immediately asset stripped and deported to a what can best be determined to be their native homeland.

I decide that visitors from the EU, US, Australia, NZ and other select countries get a free 30 day visa on arrival with no associated access to non-emergency healthcare, welfare etc and everyone else applies for a visa vignette at our embassies/consulates in their home countries before embarkation.

I also make it illegal for non British citizens to purchase domestic property and make access to welfare, healthcare and education available to British citizens only.

How exactly is it that "Immigration will remain at current levels"?

Living in a representative democracy means that we don't get to directly mandate our MPs and other public servants but when they are clearly acting in contravention of basic principles of public office, we need a way of allowing their constituents to remove them without waiting for an election - although that would require very careful framing.

We also clearly need a British version of the Logan Act.

I believe everyone should have a problem with unregulated free movement. How do we provide/plan housing, schools, utilities etc, for an unknown size of population? We have a census every 10 years to determine the numbers, and plan for the future. To have no control over numbers and types of immigrant makes a mockery of the whole thing.

If you were running a business, and needed a set number of workers with specific skills, I doubt anyone would think it good policy to just open the doors to anyone passing, and pay them a wage, contribute to a pension, and benefits, in the hope that some of them were what you needed. The business wouldn't last long, but you would at least have the option of dismissing those that couldn't fill the role.

Andrew, I don't think any political party, and that includes those in the EU, has my kids/grandkids best interests at heart, not just the Tories. I have never voted Tory, but the Brexit vote has been a long time coming, and they provided it. There have been several 'promises' to hold referendums over the years, and both the main parties have reneged on those 'promises', that is one of the reasons that leave won.

The police are now giving freedom of arrest to illegal immigrants from vietnam .

They should be putting about one person on the lorry and had a great deal of money to be given to a person on a picture they had

When they crawl out of the woodwork for this prize arrest and deport them

Theres no wars in most countries so arrest anyone from them if they dont have permission to be here deport them .

Chinese nail bars should be first on the list why should they be here?

Unfortunately they know full well the government dont care if they are here so once they get a toe on british soil the chance of deportation is minute! Round up foreigners and demand they show their permission to be here and those that fail are imprisoned until deportation

We could employ thousands stick them in uniforms of black and let them loose ,if 2 border control agents can find 13 illegals at one railway station in an hour just think what thousands could find .

Special places could be built to put them in until a 'solution' is found to the problem

Just think of the new british companies that could start up cattle prod manufacturers and handcuff makers for a start (we do already make hand cuffs even those with long chains for american use) but i am sure more could be made

If the wasp chewer gets her way we could arrest all these scotsmen and deport them ,most say their country is great lets let them enjoy living back there! Not one will have papers showing the english government gave them permission to be here!

Ilegal immigrants could be a money spinner if we get our act together all those huge car plants and warehouses that the remainers insist will be empty will make fine prisons ,hey we could even give the prisoners a british made bucket to crap in if they behaved and didnt behead the chap on the next straw filled sack ,hey even straw will have a value again!

The police, the Home Office and numerous other agencies have known about issues surrounding human trafficking and modern slavery of Vietnamese nationals in the UK for a very long time and have done nothing about it.
The young men usually end up as "gardeners", growing cannabis indoors for triads and the women end up in sex work or working in nail bars.
Anyone smoking skunk or having their nails done is supporting modern slavery.
Ironically, the best way to stop these deaths (and there have been several similar incidents, including one in Austria) is to have hard borders with much tougher checks for the transportation of illegal cargo (including people) and tougher consequences for those caught breaking the law.

The chances of profitably getting stuff and people through diminishes, the trade ceases to be viable and people stop dying in containers.
