1.75 TC light carp rod

I have a lovely pair of 1.5 TC Daiwa rods I use for much of my tench/barbel and very rare carp fishing. However they are a little light for casting large feeders and PVA bags any distance. So I want a couple of 1.75 TC rods to cope with the more demanding distance type work.

However I've recently found that it is incredible difficult to buy off the shelf rods for my style of fishing (it took me ages to find a new avon rod and I still don't really like it). They all seem to be either barbel rods or carp rods where as what I really want is a 12-13ft carp style rod with a 1.75TC blank.

Am I strange? Do I need to make my own rods from a blank? Help!

Rich,

if you can find one have a look at the Wychwood rapier barbel rod. I have one mate and its a cracking tool for just what you are talking about mate. It has a really steely action and you can tame even big carp with one. Not cheap at around £12o but worth every penny.

Rich,my brother brought the Wychwood 1 3/4lb rods for Wingham and they were well cheap.I will get him to post the details.

Most 1 3/4 rods are now called "barbell" rods as Mark says! sign of the times eh?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Greys do a couple of ods in their prodigy range - The specimen and the Specialist.

Both have twin tops -

The Specimen has 1.5lb and 2lb TC tops

The specialist has 1.25lb and 1.75lb TC tops .

I've just bought a pair of the Specialists for some Tench/Bream fishing but havn't used them yet .

They are RRP of £129 but search for Wickford Angling as they were doing them at £87 .

Scroll down the attached link to specialist rods. I am fortunate enough to have several 1.75 lb tc rods which include a number of various combinations built on Harrison blanks and 2 older Carp specific rods by Alan Brown which I specifically use with swing tips. I would also like a pair of the original Shimano Diaflash rods which are superb are like the proverbial rocking horse pooh as owners do not normally let them go. The 2 and 2/14 lb versions of these are also superb. The Harrisons are good and can be got hold of in a variety of forms ie two piece or three piece which are easy to carry around in the boot.

As has been previously stated, there are quite a number of other 1.75 lb rods around under the name of Barbel rods and I suppose that ultimately it comes down to a matter of personal choice

I have pairs the 2lb, 2 1/2 lb and 3lb original 12ft Diaflash specimine rods and they are corkers. My favourite rods are the old 11ft 6 Daiwa whisker Kevlar Tournament Carp rods, I have pairs of the 1.75 and 2 lb test in them and they really are the best rods I've ever used.

If anyone see's them for sale I would recommend they snap them up.

There is also the old Daiwa amorphous whisker stalking rods which came in a 21/4 lb tc which are also like hens teeth and sought after.
