1.75 TC light carp rod

I wouldn't want to go below 1.5lb tc for big tench, especially if there's the chance of something even bigger

1.5 or 1.75 through action would be my choice - 12' if possible (for easier casting). My 11' can struggle to get past about 60 yards, which to be honest is OK for me but does mean some spots are out of reach.

Let me know if you find something suitable because I need another one too! I've been really happy with my Fox 'Barbel' rod which is 11' and 1.5lb tc, and the rod I'm closest to buying is a 12' version: http://www.swiftys-fishing-tackle.co.uk/ca...51d8c6fbaf000aa

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Greys do a couple of ods in their prodigy range - The specimen and the Specialist.

Both have twin tops -

The Specimen has 1.5lb and 2lb TC tops

The specialist has 1.25lb and 1.75lb TC tops .

I've just bought a pair of the Specialists for some Tench/Bream fishing but havn't used them yet .

They are RRP of £129 but search for Wickford Angling as they were doing them at £87 .

I have a pair of Greys 12' Prodigy Barbel rods of 1.7lb tc and have cast 5oz PVA bags of pellets on large rivers without any problem with them.

But I have never used them at really long range for Tench and I would probably go for my 12' 2lb Diawa Powermesh's for Tench at range.

Im very happy with my Nash Barbel Elite 12ft 1.75lb Rod. May have problems finding them now though. Have had tench to over 7lbs, carp to over 16lb and a 14lb 8oz barbel. Coped well with all three. At only £40 a real bargain.

The only downside being single legged rod rings but they have put up with the abuse I have given them.

For a long time I used 1 1/4lb rods as standard for all my big tench and bream work.Thing is though that "big" tench and bream have got a lot bigger! for me big now means 8lb+ tench and 10lb+bream.! 3/4lb has now become my standard bream and tench rod due to this. However even with modern method/bag tactics Ive never found or felt the need for higher. I do however change from my all round rods (3/4 action) to ones with a lot faster taper for anything much above 50-75m. Quite hard to find now and I was lucky enough to have kept my long range rods fron the late 80's.People like Bruce&Walker,Conoflex and Terry Eustace are the best to source this type of blank.

If I've done this right, this link should bring up a load of 1.75lb rods currently for sale.
