DVD problems

Yes, one (the original preinstalled) is Lightscribe.

 

The other is a Phillips which I installed myself (for copying disc to disc)

 

I have tried various options, the latest was to remove Sonic my DVD and also Sony architect.

 

I then switched off and unplugged the pc and removed the drive connections....rebooted and no writers were shown in device manager.

 

I switched off again and connected the original writer..tested it was shown and checked it played a DVD and CD OK

 

 

I then connected the second writer and tested again...it plays DVD and CD OK.

 

Windows also plays the MPEG2 files (viseos) OK, but it does "search for codec" before playing dvd's.

 

 

I will reinstall "My DVD (Sonic) tomorrrow and try to write jpgs and files, I know it can't handle MPEG2, but should be able to handle my earlier videos.

 

Re the AVCHD, my video camera records in High Definition (AVCHD) and the Sony software allows me to play them back OK, and also simple editing (trimming and extracting a single frame) but to do anything else on the PC, I have to convert to MPEG2.

 

I have been doing this for months,sometimes the PC struggles with the masses of data, but never had a failure till I got the error message. This happens with both writers, and with Architect, MY DVD(sonic) and also the other Sonic software that I D/L a patch for. This patch messed it up, so I removed that software.

 

One thing I haven't tried, is to make a dvd straight from the AVC files, it used to work, but I can't play them back (need Blu ray :) )

So, do I sell the camera?

 

There was a conflict between two (or possibly 3) lots of DVD writing software on my PC. I expect that Sony Architect works fine on its own, but I am not going to chance it :)

 

Or so I have been told :)

Just a quick one Den on another piece os SONY kit I just bought. I have been googling myself and SO many people are ditching SONY because of the problems they have had with Hardware AND software and some of these guys are lifelong supporters of Sony too. Says a lot to me allthough im don't even PRETEND to be able to follow the technical stuff!!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

At the moment, I am using the Sony software that came with the camera. This handles the AVC files, allows me to move them back and forth to camera, trim the clips and extract a still frame in HD.

 

I use the same software to convert to MPEG2.

 

I can then make a film and add titles etc using these MPEG files. I can make HD film, but can't watch it as I don't have Blu ray.

 

Not being much of an expert, I think the probs may be due to having Sony architect and some other DVD writing software and switching from one to the other

 

If I could trust myself to recover, I would try removing the preinstalled Sonic writer software, installing the sony architect and seeing what happens..................
