Go Fishing show

My wife and I both went yesterday, but only because we had two complimentary tickets. I agree with previous posters about the entrance fee, it is a rip-off being asked to pay a significant amount to get into what is effectively a glorified Sunday market. And the car-park fee is a p*** take! As for the prices charged for refreshments inside the NEC, don't even start me on that! National Extortion Centre would be an accurate definition.

Having said that, although there was probably less inside than at previous years events, there was some interesting stuff to see and hear and there were tackle bargains to be had if you shopped around. There were also a large number of angling bodies represented in addition to the trade stands.

From what I observed, it was an extremely popular event - it was absolutely packed out for most of the time we were there - so the organisers will probably consider it to be another commercial success. Which is what it's all about really, it's not put on for the benefit of millions of anglers but for those who earn a living from us.

Our chief weapon is surprise

Is it the 'major show' mentioned by Angler's Mail here?

If so, has anyone read what they had to say?

i went to the 1967 tackle show in london excellent ,theres also the tackle and guns show but i believe its for the trade but no-doupt all are expensive days out nowadays

my most memorable was a aquarium show in the 70's some of the tanks were pure art

Shows like this used to be brilliant. I always went to this one and also the one at Chatsworth House. The first couple of times all the big names were there Sensas, Daiwa, Browning but over the years they stopped going.

I think its the influx of either unbranded or own branded goods which have driven the big companies away because they just can't, or don't want to compete with someone who can sell two reels for a tenner.
