SAVE THE BROADS CAMPAIGN

Theres always been a bit of a battle on the Broads. Between the various goverment agencies, wildlife associations, fishing bodies, commercial boating interests and the various self proclaimed riparian 'owners'.

Often it just simmers away under the surface but only takes a few little things and theres an all mighty hoo-har.

It's such a wonderful natural environment that the balancing act is infinite.

It might be a lot quieter when half of it's 100 yards out to sea and very much the poorer.

If only the various interests could find a common ground/standpoint then the whole thing might stand a better chance of salvation rather than just the short term interests.

...and on cue, I was born in Hemsby, and it was established folklore in that village that Winterton folk married their cousins.:lol:

Well there be a thing. Vagabond a Hemsby boy! I always thought he was a bit of a rummun.

How long did you live in Hemsby Vagabond??

My Grandmother is always telling me that the boys from Winterton used to stone the boys from Hemsby if they dared venture into the village. The villages by the way are around a mile or so apart.

It's all true about the Winterton folk. A trip to the church yard and a look at the gravestones turns up about half a dozen surnames. Mine included..

Moved (or to be accurate was moved) to Sussex when I was three. Still had a couple of aunts in Hemsby though.

Spent some of my childhood (from age 9 to 11) in Cromer and Corpusty.(Plug here for "Angling Vagabond" which tells about that http://www.trafford.com/07-2851).

If you rode a bike from Corpusty to Melton Constable, you had to look lively as you rode through Briston - the Briston Bushwackers stoned all strangers on sight.

Have posted links on the three main Broads forums, including the one that is read by those with clout. There is much 'political stuff' going on behind the scenes in Broadland so the timing of this petition is fortuitous.

Re inbreeding, straight family trees, that and the aluminium saucepans and lead pipes, those Norfick bors dun't stand a chance!
