Hi,

I've been a course angler for loads of years, but am now taking up Fly fishing - which is a completly different kettle of fish (forgive the pun!). I need a book that is REALLY basic, that I can follow step by step on how to tackle up etc.

Any recommendations please.

Why don't you google for info, should be plenty out there,or some of the specialist fly fishing web sites can offer pictures and info.No real mystery to it.Depends on what you are going to do-ie rivers or stillwaters, then are they large or medium to small!.Choose your tackle accordingly, seek advice from your local tackle shop or even go for a lesson or two before getting any gear.

A 6 or 7 weight rod would suffice as a general guide for small to medium stillwaters with a matching line, possibly a floater to start with.Reel need not be an expensive jobby, plenty of decent priced large arbour reels out there.

Backing line, fly line some flies and away you go :D

You should join a club, as I did last year. They will offer casting instructions, the guys will gladly and advice you on gear, etc. My club lend me the rod & reels during the lessons. Explained me everything. After a couple of lessons, say 3 hours, I could cast out a fly, not very good, not very far, but still. I went with that club to 2 day trips late last year, blanked the first time and caught 6 trout on the second. Someone saw me from the other side of the water, walked over, handed me two flies ... and off I went. The flies worked. I can not wait till the 19th of April where my season will start. Good luck with it!
