Have a look at

http://www.pacgb.co.uk/

and PLEASE remember that carp fishing with a deadbait is not pike fishing! Different species, different attitudes. Pike are not self hooking for one thing, and hopefully don't have names.

hi fella , this may sound like a moan but it not we are just trying to make sure you understand the need to look after pike .

your post would be much better if it was to read more like this

-what specialist unhooking equiptment do i need

-does anyone have any good info on how to unhook pike

-or would anyone be willing to invite me along to show me how to unhook pike

-what rig

-what line/hook

-what bait

pike fishing is awesome but as peter said they are a completely different, er, kettle of fish

i hope you get into it properly and enjoy it , then spread the word to others who don't know what to do. good luck ;)

Bait - pretty much anything goes but favorites are smelt, mackerel & sardines...you can get the ;ast two from your local supermarket

Rigs - start off with a float or float ledger if your not fishing at distance and make sure you watch them at all times, no time for snoozing and nipping off to other swims. YOu can use a bite alarm as backup. Line has to be 15lbs minimum, and if you can afford it go for stonger BS of braid.

Hook size depends on bait size but generally a six should cover a lot. You can use a single treble too which makes unhooking easier.

Make sure you also use at least 12' of wire trace and, as above, check out the PAC site for unhooking & handling info.

Good luck with it, once you get started you'll be branching out into lure fishing and different methods. I rarely fish for anything else but pike these days, can't get enough of it :D

I'm all for long traces but 12 foot seems a bit OTT!

12' short for deadbaiting, a lot of people go up to 16/18'

Rules on a lot of waters (Chew for instance)

TBH what harm does it do, better off longer and not getting a bite off

Bloody Hell Neil, how long's the rod you use? :o;)

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
