Back to my roots

Following the grueller at Wingham, I needed to go catch a reasonable fish, just to make sure I hadn't forgotten everything I thought I knew.

So, to the perch pond, early yesterday, looking for one of those better-than-average stripeys that live down by the alder roots.

Frozen maggot and caster were trickled in until there was a seething mass of small fish just below the surface and about three feet out from the alder bush - then two lobs on a #4 allowed to sink slowly between the tiddlers and the roots, and WHIZZ !! (as Walton said " a bold-biting fish") the float streaked under and ho-ho-ho a decent perch.

Landed, photo, returned the fish carefully to the next swim, crept back to my own and tried for another. A second sail-away bite, but this one dragged the rod-tip under and was something fairly solid. with a groan I realised what I was attached to, fifteen minutes of the beggar circling the swim with me steering it round and round until at last I got a glimpse. A second groan - it was "Uglymug", which I had twice from this swim last year - a mirror of about eight/nine pounds, a bit big for my perch net, but managed to get the head and shoulders in and the rest followed. The commotion had put paid to my chances of more perch. Put the carp back (its the rools innit ?) and considered what to do next. Other club members were arriving, which made up my mind for me. Home, coffee and biscuits seemed a good idea.

AAAAHHHHH !!! The same trick as last time I tried to add a pic "the server returned an error during upload"

Is it me/my PC/my server, or are others having this trouble ? Afraid you will have to imagine a perch for now. Tried reducing the pic size - still the same response.

PS BTW I have recently sent pics and other attachments to email correspondents, which suggests the problem may not be at my end.

At least you've had a bit of sport Dave, catching a fish is a distant memory for me. Just hoping this warm spell keeps up and Brian and myself are goin' tinca tuggin' :).
