A few hours out yesterday.....

Tigger

Recommended Posts

Bit of a last minuite scramble to get out yesterday but I managed to get on the river for the the last hour of daylight. Temp's weren't anything like as cold as of recent days and felt quite warm at 10 degrees. I caught nothing of any size but I dropped on a shoal of small chub in a glide and caught pretty much every trott through until I couldn't see the float.

Tigger,

It used to never fail me. If I was 50/50 about going I was always paid handsomely if I scrambled and made the effort. Plan a trip to the river for a week. Blank

I've only had three outings on the river since the start of 2017, just haven't had much desire to bother. I got a new rod yesterday " a 13ft Tricast John Allerton match Waggler" and it gave me the urge to get out and do a bit today. I had a ride over to a Cheshire river to try and christen the rod. I didn't catch loads of fish but it was enjoyable using the new rod on anew stretch of river....

Tigger.

Handsome fish for the season.

Alas, don't know squat about your new kit. But whatever it takes to stay bankside is worth it.

Thanks Phone, I don't know squat about the rod either to be honest but it did the trick, got me out on the bank and caught a few fish so it'll do for me :).

I do enjoy your "few hours out yesterday blogs" Tigger! Nice to see some fish on the bank even if they aren't mine. That rod is highly rated as a specialist river tool - and beyond my pay scale for the success I have for this kind of fishing at the moment. However, I would be blanking in style for sure!

Thanks Mathew :), you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up the Allerton Match Waggler for, not cheap i know but a lot less than the rrp and only a little more than a 15ft plus acolyte! It is a lovely rod but the Normark Avengers still king of the hill ;) .

It's been a dull, damp and miserable day round here today and although it was about 10 degrees the fine rain combined with the squally winds made it feel quite chilly, especially once i'd got wet ! The river was quite wide where I fished and because i'd forgot my waders ( I wasn't gonn'a travel 40 mile round trip to get 'em lol) I had to make long casts to get to the runs I wanted to trott the float through. I wish i'd taken a heavier float to help cast further and to hold it's line better when mending my line....there's always another time and at least I was fishing :).
The fish weren't exactly jumping up the banks but I did finish up with a few chub from about a pound and a half to two pound with one little tiddler chub of about 6 ounces, quite unusual as I thought all the little ones where down in the tidal parts at this time of year. Plenty otter prints about again but unfortunately I didn't catch a glimpse of one.
